What size generator do I need?

Start by adding together the running wattage of everything you want to power at the same time.

You should then allow additional capacity for equipment with motors, pumps or compressors, as these can require significantly more power for a short period when starting. Examples include:

• Refrigerators and freezers
• Water pumps
• Compressors
• Power tools
• Air-conditioning equipment
• Workshop machinery

Some equipment can draw 2–3 times its normal running wattage during start-up, so it is important to allow sufficient headroom.

As a general rule, choose a generator with a rated output comfortably above your expected maximum demand.

What is the difference between an inverter generator and a conventional generator?

Inverter generators are designed to produce stable, high-quality electrical output and are particularly well suited to sensitive electronics such as:

• Laptops
• TVs
• Phone chargers
• Audio equipment
• Electronic control systems

They are also typically quieter, lighter and more fuel-efficient than traditional generators, particularly at lower loads.

Conventional generators are often better suited to applications where higher power output and robust performance are more important than portability or very low noise.

Typical applications include:

• Workshops
• Agricultural equipment
• Emergency backup power

The right choice depends on what you need to power, how much output you require and where the generator will be used.

How loud are your generators?

Where the manufacturer provides a noise rating, this will be shown on the individual product page.

Noise levels are generally stated in dB(A), although the measurement distance and load condition can vary between manufacturers.

Inverter generators and generators fitted with acoustic or sound-attenuated enclosures are generally quieter than open-frame models.

If noise is an important consideration, please check the product specification carefully or contact us for advice before ordering.

How long will my order take to arrive?

For products that are in stock, most Mainland UK orders are delivered within approximately 1–3 working days from dispatch.

Smaller products may be sent using a tracked parcel courier.

Larger generators are normally delivered on a pallet using a specialist freight carrier or tail-lift vehicle, with delivery made to a suitable kerbside or driveway location.

Scottish Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and Channel Islands may take longer and additional delivery charges may apply.

Is delivery free?

Standard delivery is free to eligible Mainland UK addresses.

Additional delivery charges may apply to:

If you are located in one of these areas, please contact us before ordering so we can confirm the delivery charge and estimated timescale.

What warranty do your generators come with?

Our generators are supplied with the relevant manufacturer's warranty, where applicable.

The length and conditions of the warranty vary by manufacturer and product.

Warranty claims may be handled through the manufacturer's authorised UK service network, and we can assist you with the process where appropriate.

A manufacturer's warranty is provided in addition to your statutory consumer rights and does not replace them.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major credit and debit cards through our secure online checkout.

Available payment methods are displayed before you complete your purchase and may include:

• Visa
• Mastercard
• American Express
• Other payment methods supported by our payment provider

Payments are processed securely through Stripe or other payment services displayed at checkout.

We do not normally store your complete payment card details.

What is your returns policy?

We offer a 30-day returns policy, subject to the conditions set out in our Returns & Refunds Policy.

For change-of-mind returns, goods should be returned complete, securely packaged and in suitable condition.

Petrol and diesel generators require particular care. We recommend that you do not add fuel or oil or operate the generator if you are considering returning it.

Where goods have been handled beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect them, a deduction may be made for any reduction in value where permitted by law.

This does not affect your statutory rights if a product is faulty, damaged, misdescribed or not of satisfactory quality.

What happens if my generator arrives damaged?

Please inspect your delivery as soon as reasonably possible.

If you notice visible damage:

• Take photographs of the product and packaging
• Retain the packaging
• Note the damage on the carrier's paperwork where possible
• Contact us as soon as possible

We ask that obvious transit damage is reported within 48 hours where reasonably possible, as this helps us raise a claim with the carrier promptly.

This does not affect your statutory rights.

Do products come with instructions?

Yes. Generators and portable power products are normally supplied with the manufacturer's operating and safety documentation.

You should read all instructions before installing, fuelling, starting or using the equipment.

Always follow the manufacturer's maintenance, fuel, oil and safety requirements.

Can I run a generator indoors?

No. Petrol, diesel and LPG generators must never be operated indoors or in an enclosed or poorly ventilated space.

Engine-driven generators produce exhaust gases containing carbon monoxide, which is poisonous and can be fatal.

Never operate an engine-driven generator inside locations such as:

• Homes
• Garages
• Sheds
• Warehouses
• Tents
• Caravans
• Workshops without suitable outdoor exhaust arrangements

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding safe positioning and ventilation.

Battery-powered portable power stations do not produce engine exhaust gases, but they should still be used and charged in accordance with the manufacturer's safety instructions.

Can I connect a generator directly to my house or business?

A generator should not simply be connected directly into a property's electrical system without the correct equipment and installation.

Standby or fixed generator installations may require equipment such as a changeover switch, transfer switch or ATS, depending on the application.

Electrical installation work should be carried out by a suitably competent and qualified person.

If you are purchasing a larger standby generator, we recommend arranging appropriate electrical advice before placing your order.

What is the difference between prime power and standby power?

Prime Power (PRP) refers to the output a generator can provide when it is being used as a primary source of electricity under the manufacturer's specified operating conditions.

Emergency Standby Power (ESP) refers to the maximum output available for emergency backup use when the normal mains supply fails.

For larger industrial generators, both ratings are normally shown on the product specification.

What is the difference between kW and kVA?

kW (kilowatts) measures real electrical power.

kVA (kilovolt-amperes) measures apparent power and is commonly used when specifying larger commercial and industrial generators.

On a three-phase generator with a typical 0.8 power factor, the kW rating will normally be lower than the kVA rating.

Always size a generator using the requirements of the equipment you intend to operate rather than relying on the headline kVA figure alone.

Do you sell single-phase and three-phase generators?

Yes. We offer both single-phase and three-phase generators.

Single-phase generators are commonly used for:

Three-phase generators are commonly used for:

Is VAT included in your prices?

VAT is charged at the applicable UK rate and will be clearly shown before you complete your order.

Can I collect my generator?

Collection may be available by prior arrangement.

Please contact us before travelling so we can confirm that your order is available and arrange a suitable collection time.
